NFL Game Pass transfers its catalog to DAZN

Starting from the 2023 season, NFL Game Pass will be integrated into DAZN. This means that NFL Game Pass subscribers will have access to game replays, NFL Network, NFL Films, documentaries, talk shows, and over 1,900 movies in the +240 countries and regions where DAZN is available. All NFL content will be accessible through a standalone package without the need for a previous subscription. Additionally, a plan with free NFL content will be added. Although it is currently possible to access NFL Game Pass content through its app and website, from August 1st, it will only be available on DAZN.

Offers and discounts for Prime Day

During Prime Day, which took place from July 10th to July 12th, offers were detected in various countries, such as the United States, France, Italy, Australia, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Brazil, Canada, and Mexico. Amazon Prime Video stands out as the only platform that consistently has this event globally year after year. During Prime Day, the streaming service offered discounts of up to 80% on the first 2 months and extended the free trial periods from 14 to 30 days. Some of the catalogs that had these offers included HBO Max, ViX Premium, Britbox, Paramount+, Lionsgate+, and AcornTV.

Paramount+ launches a 50% discount on its monthly plan

Price change in Starz and new offer in the United States

The streaming platform owned by Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation, Starz, is one of the most established in the market. It has variations such as Lionsgate+ in Latin America and Starzplay in the Middle East and North Africa. It offers HD quality, ad-free content, and the option to download for offline viewing.

In the early days of July, there was a price increase of USD 1, bringing its value to USD 9.99. This change represents the first price modification the platform has experienced since 2020. Similarly, additional plans of YouTube TV and Amazon Prime Video included in Starz’s catalog adjusted their price to USD 9.99. It’s worth noting that on June 23rd, the platform launched a promotional offer of USD 2.99 available for a limited period of 3 months. However, a few weeks later, the offer was adjusted to USD 4.99. Additionally, the monthly plan includes a free 7-day trial period.

Expansion of Disney+ and Star+ alliances in Latin America

Disney+ and Star+ are expanding their commercial alliances in Latin America to strengthen their presence in countries such as Chile, Colombia, and Peru. In July, The Walt Disney Company signed an agreement with Movistar in Peru, allowing subscribers of Movistar’s Fiber Internet and TV plans to access the Disney+ and Star+ streaming platforms at no additional cost. These plans have price ranges that go from PEN 159.90 to PEN 529.90.

Additionally, Disney+ and Star+ have established partnerships with significant companies in the country. Among them are Apple and Google in the technology sector, DIRECTV and its streaming platform DGO in the telecommunications sector, Roku in the manufacturing of digital media players, and Visa in the field of financial services. These agreements enable Disney+ and Star+ to expand their presence and collaborate with various companies in Latin America, aiming to offer their streaming services to a broader audience.

New transactional plan from Starzplay

Starting from July, Starzplay enabled the option to rent movies in 4K quality in the Middle East and North Africa. While there are other platforms like iTunes and Google Play that offer movie rentals, Starzplay stands out by providing this service while also offering subscription plans. One of the benefits of this business model is the ability to rent only what the customer desires, which attracts new subscribers looking for specific content.

Estadio TNT Sports ceases to exist in Brazil

Since June 30th, Estadio TNT Sports, the sports content platform owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc., ceased its operations in Brazil. This platform offered a monthly subscription plan for BRL 19.90 and an annual plan for BRL 166.80. In Argentina, the company’s TV Everywhere sports service, formerly known as TNT Sports Go, now uses the same name as in Chile and is called Estadio TNT Sports.

Amazon Prime Video includes HBO Max to its additional plans

In the last days of June, HBO Max began offering additional plans in Brazil and Mexico. The extra cost is BRL 34.90 in Brazil (USD 7.15) and MXN 179.00 in Mexico (USD 10.46), which aligns with the monthly subscription cost of HBO Max in these countries. One of the advantages of this partnership is that subscribers get a free 7-day trial period and can add the HBO Max catalog to their Amazon Prime Video bill, without the need to download additional apps.

In addition to HBO Max, other catalogs from significant streaming services are available in these countries, such as ViX+, Lionsgate+, and Paramount+. This way, users have access to a wide variety of options to enjoy exclusive and high-quality content in one place.

Bet+ launches new plans with ads in the United States

On June 26th, Bet+, the U.S.-based platform specialized in content for the African diaspora, introduced new subscription options supported by advertising. The Essential plan is offered at a price of USD 5.99 per month or USD 54.99 with annual billing, representing a difference of USD 4.00 and USD 40.00, respectively, compared to the ad-free plans offered by the platform. Both plans include a 7-day trial period.

An increasing number of platforms are incorporating ad-supported plans. For example, in the United States, Disney+ and Hulu offer plans with ads for USD 7.99 per month; Max proposes its monthly plan with ads for USD 9.99 per month; Paramount+ provides its Essential plan with ads for USD 9.99 per month; and Netflix presents its Standard plan with ads for USD 6.99 per month. This trend is intensifying in the United States, likely setting a precedent for the rest of the world.

Updates on Amazon Prime Video plans

Starting from June 21st, the plans that were introduced in April are no longer available on the Amazon Prime Video platform in Brazil, Mexico, and Canada. In these two Latin American countries, users will no longer be able to subscribe annually to additional plans from Paramount+, Lionsgate+, ViX, Looke, Adrenalina Pura, Stingray, and others. In Canada, some of the annual plans that are no longer available include Paramount+, Starz, Hayu, Britbox, AMC+, AcornTV, and OutTV. Canadian subscribers can still access additional plans, but they will have to pay for them on a monthly basis.

Another update on Prime Video is that in recent weeks, the platform has added additional plans in European countries. In Belgium, Sweden, and Poland, catalogs from Hayu, MGM+, Stingray Karaoke, Qello Concerts By Stingray, OUT TV, and others are now available, with offers of 7 or 14 days of free trial, depending on the plan. Additionally, a new transactional business model has been introduced, allowing users to rent the streaming platform’s content they wish to watch.

Netflix discontinues offering its basic plan in Canada

In mid-June, it was observed that Netflix’s basic plan in Canada (CAD 9.99) is no longer available for new subscribers in the country. Existing subscribers with this plan can continue to keep it until they change plans or cancel their account. For new users, the minimum streaming quality has been raised to Full HD. Additionally, the minimum number of devices for simultaneous content viewing has increased to 2.

In Canada, Netflix offers the Standard plan with ads for CAD 5.99, the Standard plan for CAD 16.49, and the Premium plan for CAD 20.99. If the user wishes, they can add an additional profile to the ad-free plans for CAD 7.99. This has widened the price gap, which could be an incentive to promote the plan with ads. Currently, this change is only applied in Canada. However, if this policy proves to increase the number of subscribers for this specific plan, there is a possibility that it could be replicated in other countries.

Increase in HBO Max price

On June 14th, there was an increase in the price of HBO Max in Spain, Portugal, the Nordic countries, and Bulgaria. In Bulgaria and Portugal, this increase represents the first price hike since March 2022, while in Spain and the Nordic countries, it is the first increase since October 2021. Customers will see the new amount reflected in their next billing cycle. This move follows the trend observed in some Latin American countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico, where price increases were also implemented in the early months of April.

HBO Max offers ad-free content in 4K quality, allows simultaneous streaming on up to 3 devices, and provides the option to download content for offline viewing.
